These forums seem very quiet lately...has everybody gone on holiday? It's all very well talking to that Mike bloke all the time but.....I bet there's someone somewhere with a story to tell or some gossip to share. I'll start it off if you like by sharing my profile with you.

My first "proper" keyboard was a KN6000 which I later upgraded to a KN65000.As technology is a major challenge I was not keen at first to explore the potential of the instrument and contented myself playing one-finger chords against a dodgy melody!! After a while I packed the keyboard off to the shed and it stayed there for a disgraceful length of time. It would probably still be there today if I hadn't discovered two work colleagues (one a singer and the other a drummer with a rehearsal room in his garden) interested in forming a band. Now, I don't count myself as a musician or a singer but I have an ear and a passion for harmonies and so we got together and gave it a go. I quickly realised I could not play live, push buttons and sing the harmony all at the same time...and then I remembered something called a sequencer! OMG.( Keep in mind that at this stage I was petrified even of pushing the "panel write" button in case I buggered up the keyboard! ) When I look back now I shudder at my lack of aptitude. But needs must and so I spent hours and hours and hours (yawn) studying the user manual and eventually things clicked. Well. our band ended up with 40-50 decent sounding arrangements and we had some really great laughs along the way though sadly we don't play together anymore. I have since upgraded to a KN7000 simply for the SD speed/convenience and this site has been an absolute Godsend.

PS no offense intended to Mike

PPS Mike, I still intend to get some of those arrangements to you but you just know I'll need your help! (about 8 ready to go)

Re: Is anybody out there?

Hi Mel,

That will be just you and me than LOL... I gave the others a couple of days to answer but I can't leave you hanging on like that smiling

Maybe we have 2512 Members who are introverts (yes 2512 as of today!)... and I get that because I'm a bit of an introvert myself despite performing on stage for many years... or maybe there are just too many pages for them to find the chats smiling ... I never really wanted every thread to end with 'Admin', I like to read what everyone else has to say grin

Ohhh and no offence taken I assure you, I like nothing more than to see everyone chatting on here. It's a shame to hear about some of the instruments malfunctioning, relatively few given their ages, and I hope that some engineers from around the country and world will let us know their availability for repairs. Though I have to say that our Mr Tutt is doing a fantastic job of helping people out and even has parcels winging back and forth 'down under'.

I actually never really liked being in the limelight but part of playing music is wanting other people to enjoy it and, strangely perhaps, I find that I play better live than I do at home. I think I concentrate harder. As to playing into the sequencer at home, I invariably play badly, it makes me feel nervous haha. So you're streets ahead of me when it comes to that!

It being a holiday period I will only be online to do things that are necessary for a few weeks. My daughter got her Masters degree in Russia and she's heading back there soon. Alex got a Merit in Grade 7 guitar and numerous Distinctions in his BTEC Level 3 plus some other high qualifications and he starts his Degree in a few weeks time so we're taking it easy, going away for the Bank Holiday and all that jazz.

Regarding playing in a group that is something really satisfying as I'm sure you'll agree... we're lucky not to have close neighbours to our living room because we all play various instruments... and I miss gigging with friends but I just can't find the time on top of the day job. Truth be told I haven't gigged for a few years either so don't feel well prepared for it. Several of my close musician friends are sadly departed and others play in professional groups out of the area. I don't really fancy gigging on my own as I did in my teens.

However, maybe as we lean in towards winter (not much chance of an autumn at this rate) you might share some sequences with me and I'll play a duet with you. How about that? I remember going to a Johnny Mathis concert in my 20s where he sang a duet with Deniece Williams in her absence (thanks to the wonders of 'modern' technology) so I was thinking 'Mel and Mike' has a ring to it, and the wonders of modern technology are now even more wondrous.....

Well I'll sign off for now. Hopefully some of our compatriots and comrades will join in and we might find a trio or quartet in here soon smiling

Best wishes,
Mike

Re: Is anybody out there?

I always thought that I would either gig alone or back a singer at most but I've ended up in a Dire Straits Tribute band and loving every moment of it.-http://www.sultansofswingers.co.uk... Completely different way of playing and use of the keyboard but its amazing what you find the KN7000 is capable of when you set your mind to it. Just been contacted by two girl singers called Abbaholics who want to add a keyboard player and guitarist to their act rather than performing to backing tracks...do I dont I...can't make my mind up yet but they sing very well.

Re: Is anybody out there?

So did you start up the tribute band? Personally I'd be flattered to be picked out by two good vocalists to play live...in fact I'd be astounded!! I think if you like the same genre and share the same sense of humour then why not give it a shot. By the way..where are you from? So will you or won't you?

Hi Mel. In both instances they got in touch with me... I'm based in North Wiltshire in Wootton Bassett. As far as will I wont I, I'm meeting up with them tomorrow so I've got a bit more time to think about it.

Re: Is anybody out there?

What will your decision be based on? I'm from Clacton, Essex by the way. As I mentioned before I was in a group with a singer and a drummer. Our repertoire was 50 60 pop incorporating a bit of rock for the drummer and a few ballads for the singer. and I just liked the ones I could remember from my Infancy! ('tis true I swear) Anyway it was proper good music back thenconfused
So do keep us posted... this could be the start of one of those coffee advert sagas!!!

Re: Is anybody out there?

haha, having heard Roger play I don't think he needs to do any cheating Mel, he's being very modest.

Not such a bad idea if you're drinking a pint at the same time though.
