Hi,
My name is Paul and new to this site, only discovered it yesterday! I have owned a KN7000 for many years now but only manage to tear myself away on odd occasions to switch on and enjoy. I might be missing a trick here but I have been looking to purchase a wave expansion board and whilst this site discusses them I cannot seem to actually find out where I could get one. I had assumed that Technics had stopped making them. Can someone advise me - thanks

Re: Wave Expansion Boards

Hi Paul, Welcome to the site, If you are looking for the expansion boards one of the best ways to find them second hand (as you said Technics/Panasonic no longer produce them ) is good old Ebay. as time goes on they are getting harder to find but sill out there. On the site there are the sounds from the sound boards, but these are only approximations because the boards have NEW sound samples (Tones). They way Technics keyboards work is they use Tones to build up Sounds, each Tone is a basic but complete sample of a sound in it's own right, these are combined (up to 4) to build up the great sound library within the KN range. One thing about the keyboards most people do not know is the processor can substitute a close alternative using the voice edit, but this in not always possible. These are the ones I uploaded to the site however to get the true sounds you still need the boards to be fitted.
I would recommend you download the sounds from the site to give you a taste ( a good one!!! ) of what is a great addition to the KN6000,KN6500 and KN7000 models, making them still a most powerful machine.
Please have a good look around the site, there are many extras to find in floppy an SD format.
Regards John Dawson
PS. also known as the "Ferret " researcher for the site LOL.!!

Re: Wave Expansion Boards

Hello John and thanks for your in-depth reply. It's really nice to know that there is a KN7000 site as it has now re-kindled my desire to explore further. I am what I call a 'mechanical' player i.e. it doesn't come naturally to me therefore I have to read music, learn it, go away, forgot it, start again type. However I do enjoy playing songs and then changing the style it is played in, together with using different drum patterns as well as playing 3/4 songs in 4/4 timing etc.etc. I am also 80% deaf but manage to get a superb sound through my headphones - just as well, cos I wouldn't be flavour of the month with the neighbours!
Right, I am having some difficulty in loading these sounds from your download files and as I am really a novice when it comes to doing this I wondered if you could assist further. I have an Apple Mac - have downloaded into same both with your file names and my own. I copied these onto an SD card, it asks me questions about encoding? and tried to load them into the keyboard but there aren't any files to load. Do I have to find a Floppy disc recorder? I looked at the KN-SDExplorer but not sure if this is compatible?

Regards Paul

Re: Wave Expansion Boards

Hi Paul, I am glad to have re-kindled your interest , I use a Tower PC. running Windows 7, The main person to speak to for using an Apple Mac is Mike and his Son. If you set up will take a USB. floppy drive I would always see if you can get one as an alternative to using SD card. As I said I am not too sure on the comparability of SD Explorer with Apple mac systems. If you can get a floppy it could make transfer nice and easy, I use a Sony drive which I found in my local computer shop for not a lot of pennies. There is always that well known internet site called "Ebay".

There is something you could try with the SD Take a blank card format on the KN7 and make a Save this will set up the card, if you then open the card in your reader you should find a number of folders in succession, First is called "PRIVATE" open this and you should see "TECHNICS" open this and you will come to "KN7000" Open this and you should find the setting you had saved "TLFD001"When you open this you will find "01001KN7.---" where --- are the file extension name ie:- .cmp is composer , .tm is the sound/voice memory.

Now this .tm is where you need to place the downloaded file into. To make sure this will work I will try out tomorrow morning and send you the instructions on how to create the new file,

Regards John.

Re: Wave Expansion Boards

Hi Paul, part "2" When you make your save use page 2 and turn off all the parts off except Sound Memory, Take your card to the lap top and open the folders until you come to TFLD001. Open this inside you should find 2 files 01001KN7.LSW and 01001KN7.TM

As you have downloaded the files from the site you will have a file 01POPPRD.TM copy this over to the card. you will them have to remove the 01001KN7.TM file . then rename the 01POPPRD.TM to 01001KN7.TM

When you insert the card into the KN7 you should find that Folder 01 , song 01 it will not be named but on the righthand box it should list Control panel and Sound Memory ,press load and you should find 40 new sounds in the sound memory button.

I know It is long winded but there must be quicker and easer way but this is one I have managed to get work. I will forward your details to Mike to see if he can fill in the other answers you are looking for.

Hope this has been of help

Regards John.

Re: Wave Expansion Boards

Hi John - Just to say thanks for your help. Have purchased a floppy drive etc and have successfully downloaded the items initially required. Love the organ sounds in particular and look forward to searching around further.

Best regards - Paul
