Hi,

I am new to this forum but own a Technics SX-PR902 with a non-functional floppy drive.

I would like to be able to exploit the (still available) original Technics floppy disks for my keyboard.

If I buy an external floppy drive with USB output and a separate Midi to USB connector (e.g. one of the Yamaha ones), can I route floppy content from the external drive via PC and on through the USB to Midi connector back to my technics keyboard and will it work? Do I need anything else?

Re: PR902, Midi connectors and floppies

Hi and welcome to the site, Firstly let's look at the drive in your PR902 are you getting anything happening or getting nothing at all? are you getting an error message in the screen if so what is the message and number?. This may point us in the right direction as these units can often be repaired or replaced. Secondly, as to your question about using a USB/Midi connector the problem, there is that the USB setup of your Piano is that of the first generation USB and the software within the PR is not set up to control an external device like an external USB disk drive.
There are a couple of options that are available as I said above is to replace the drive assembly with a refurbished or new (if still available ) unit. the other option is to fit an emulator which uses a Flash drive, in effect giving you the ability to have a vast number of files on a stick. I personally have not fitted one to a PR902 as yet.but have heard good reports of the use of emulators in keyboards, organs so I would say if set up correctly it should give a more modern solution to your problem.
Regards John.
