Please, I need advice or suggestion on what I should do to make my KN5000 Screen display to be as bright and clear as it used to be. Is there any replaceable bulb in the display compartment or is it a LED light that needs changing? I looked through pages 181-186 of the manual but could not find any very useful information on how to resolve this. I'm currently finding it difficult to read the display clearly. I have tried to maintain my KN5000 very well. And apart from the Screen Display that is getting darker, everything else is working perfectly OK. I need help please.

Hi Buddy,
Download the KN5000 Service Manual
The manual explains how to carry out diagnostic tests, including the LCD display. It also explains how to change the display, however, the issue could well be something other than the display itself, such as the backlight or a capacitor. The diagnostic test should go some way to help understanding that. If you need a new display or other components you can get many of them from W D Greenhill.
It's probably best after looking through the Service Manual and trying the tests to have an engineer to repair it, at least you will have the Service Manual to help the engineer.

I will certainly look through the manual on instructions re the diagnostic tests. And as you suggested, if I can't get it sorted out, I will contact WD Greenhill for help.

I purchased a KN5000 last year.
The LCD was defective (very dark)
I designed a adapter to connect the keyboard to a new type display.
The new one is 5.7" versus the old one that was 6"
The display looks and works great.

The first thing I did was to research the type of color LCD that would be compatable with the KN5000.
I locate the type on ebay and ordered some displays.
I did not take the time to locate the type of connectors required on the cable from the keyboard or on the display.
Rather, I took the old connector from the old display because it would mat with the cable harness on the keyboard
and removed the connector from the new display and soldered the wires directly to the pads. I will make a professional adapter for others that may want one. I included a file with a picture of the display. The new display mounts very close to the original in the display case. If I get some time in the future I may make up some professionally made adapter in kit form for others that may need one.

G'day Dave, that's brilliant! My wife's keyboard has a rapidly darkening display that looks like (with alight in the right place) the LCD cover is delaminating from the crystal wafer, almost like moisture intrusion of adhesive going off.. I searched a while and couldn't find a suitable replacement panel ,so would be very interested in obtaining one, or info on where to look. Keep us posted?

Hello all, I have an KN5000 and old LCD has a blemish on the center (see picture), I need to replace backlight yes? where I can find compatible backlight panel or display with adapter mentioned above? thanks!

The LCD I used is the HANTRONIX HDM3224-CL.
I purchased some on Ebay.
Carefully removed the existing connector from the new LCD.
It is surface mounted so you must be very careful.
Removed the old connector from the original display.
Soldered individual wires using a flat ribbon cable onto the new LCD display.
Soldered the wires to the original connector from the old display.
Note:
The pinout is not a one for one.
If you are not experienced in building devices or feel comfortable doing this tedious kind of work I would not attempt it.
If you make a mistake you could damage your controller within the keyboard.
I had planned on building a adapter but have not got around to it.

Thank you for the info, I have some questions:
1. Is this display that on eBay link above are compatible or not?
2. Can you provide me pinout for your type display replacement?
3. My LCD seems like has a defetctive backlight (it has big blemish on the center but symbols readable ok, see attached picture, when I use contrast it changed), maybe for me is better to find backlight panel only?
