Hi, I'm a new member here and have been very impressed with the amount of free downloads, but I don't know how to apply them. I have downloaded a number of links. but now don't know what to do with them. I have a USB to floppy disc adapter but then I am stuck. Any help to get the information onto the floppy disc and into my KN6500 keyboard would be much appreciated. Regards Carper 26

Re: Styles and sounds dowloads
Hi and welcome, thanks for the enthusiasm and I appreciate you posting! At the moment I am writing some help pages and I'm also simplifying some of the downloads. As soon as that is done I'll reply to this post and I'll be sending out a newsletter to all members. This will make things very clear and easy for everyone who is new to this. I'm receiving lots of messages asking for this sort of help, this shows me that many of you are interested and so that inspires me to give you the help you need. So, please bear with me for just a few days and then the help will arrive There are lots more Styles and other things that will be new to you that are being prepared so it will be worth the relatively shallow learning curve I hope. If you are really, really enthusiastic and can't wait and have a little windows knowledge here are some brief instructions!
Click on the download, it should open in a new window in your zip program. Enter into one of the folders in that zip program. Separately, open your floppy drive in windows explorer (or file manager if you have windows 8). Drag all the files out of the zip folder into your floppy disk. Put the floppy disk in your keyboard and load the styles. To load the styles you have to press and hold the disk drive button on your keyboard and then press load. One folder in the zip file = one floppy disk.
Best wishes, Mike

Re: Styles and sounds dowloads
Hi Mike,
Are we to assume from your queries in your latest newsletter, that the Styles download is not capable of being installed onto Kn6500. As you know from my my e-mails, I have downloaded them but for some reason I cannot apply them. I am certainly not techie enough to know whether there are two letters are missing from the codes. If it will help I will attach photos of what I see on my screen after downloading and trying to use. Best regards Carper

Re: Styles and sounds dowloads
Further to my previous post, I have tried to load the styles Floppy into the HDSX6 fitted in my KN6500. It appears to download and even says that the download was successful , there is nothing there on any of the three partitions. Regards Carper

Re: Styles and sounds dowloads
Hi Carper26,
I really love your enthusiasm but you're running ahead of me I'm afraid. We had another topic going where I asked you to download a Sounds file and then you emailed me directly to say that you had successfully loaded those 40 sounds onto your KN6500.
Appreciate that I don't have a KN6500 here to do tests on so I really need you to do baby steps with me and we'll definitely resolve all of your issues
I want to ask you to do a series of things and the results are important, otherwise I'll be telling everyone else the wrong thing if you see what I mean.
I know you want to get to loading styles and I'll be very responsive here over the next few days. I need to start with Sounds because the files are simple. Then we'll get to Styles. Then I'll read the manual for your hard drive and we'll sort that
Let's go right back to the beginning please:
1 - Go to your RHYTHM GROUP Memory button and make a note of what Sounds are in there now
2 - Download the file attached to this message and put it on a floppy disk that contains nothing else
3 - Try to LOAD it on your KN6500
4 - There should now be 40 Sounds in your RHYTHM GROUP Memory button. Different Sounds than you had before.
Let me know if that fails and then I'll know what the next step is.
Best wishes,
Mike

Re: Styles and sounds dowloads
Hi Mike,
Thanks for your help and patience. I'm afraid frustration is tempering my enthusiasm a little but I'll try to be more patient.
I have formatted a disc and downloaded the link you give and and tried to load it after noting the previous rhythms. but no change after downloading. I tried to load with the indicator light on and off, to see if this made a difference
The download appeared on the second slot on the first column. I noted that there was only a dash after the N in your link when it appeared on download entry and wonder if that has anything to do with it. Thanks again for your attention and patience

Re: Styles and sounds dowloads
Hi Carper26,
Not a problem, I'll keep helping until we get it right
The appearance of the file in the second slot is perfect, that's because the filename starts with the digits "02" and it means we're doing something right (I'm learning here with you).
Now... I made a mistake because I said RHYTHM GROUP but I am still on the topic of Sounds, I meant to say please look in your SOUND GROUP Memory and see whether you have new Sounds in there. I'm very sorry about that and I'll be more careful in future, it was about 1am here
So, can you please check your SOUND GROUP Memory. If you have 40 new Sounds in there then everything else should be plain sailing.
Many thanks,
Mike

Re: Styles and sounds dowloads
Hello Mike,
WE seem to have a bit of success. I initialized the whole keyboard and looked at the sounds in the memory and then loaded the link and as you say they have completely changed. For interest I am enclosing pictures of the standard sounds on page one, and then page one after downloading the link. I trust these are your new sounds.
Looking forward to next step now but please don't stay up tu 1.0am on my account. Thanks again Carper26

Re: Styles and sounds dowloads
Carper26,
That is brilliant! It means that the Sounds files are exactly the same for KN6000 and KN6500 (as they should be) and I don't need to change any of the released files!
So, the files I used for the examples are taken from Styles Series 1. You can go to THIS PAGE to get the complete set. The set will all fit on one floppy disk easily and you can load them one by one to try out all of the Sounds.
Download all of the files onto one floppy disk, write protect it by closing the hole in the corner and then that floppy disk is your backup. We'll talk about transferring it to your hard drive soon and we'll talk about how to make your own set of favourite Sounds, so that you don't have to load all the Sounds you don't want and so on.
Next, let's look at the Styles.
On a new floppy disk (better buy some more floppies!), download the three files attached to this message. These are three Styles from the Styles Series Y1.
Load them in exactly the same way as you loaded the Sounds. Each file is one new Rhythm pattern and it should LOAD into your RHYTHM GROUP Memory.
Let's LOAD these three one at a time. They should be in slots 01, 04 and 05 on your LOAD screen.
Try them out and then assuming that it's a success I'll explain more fully how to use all of the Styles in the series.
Let me know how you get on.
Best wishes,
Mike

Re: Styles and sounds dowloads
PS when you are on your LOAD screen (I'm assuming it is very similar to KN7000) notice that it tells you what type of file you have selected. Take a good look around the LOAD screen whilst you are there.

Re: Styles and sounds dowloads
Great. Now you can watch the three videos to show you how to put the Styles on floppy disk. There are instructions underneath the videos. Read the instructions first, then expand the video to full screen when you play it. There is no commentary, just watch carefully what I do on my computer. It is a bit blurred but you should be able to see. I'm working on better videos.
Videos to show you how to transfer Technics keyboard files onto floppy disk - CLICK HERE
There are three separate pages. Steps 1, 2 and 3.
