Removing keys?

Hi all, I have just come into possession of a KN7000 but the keys look as though they have been mutilated (strange I know) anyway I am not interested in restoring or replacing the keys. In fact given the fact that all the buttons etc are on the main panel what I would like to do is take all the internal boards out and put them in a smaller housing to make a sound module out of it. So I suppose what I am asking is when the keys are disconnected from the rest of the innards would it break the whole circuit.Or would it still work,apart from having keys of course.
