Re: Fixing Technic U60 organ

Hi, may I welcome you to the site. the service manual for the U60 is unfortunately not yet in the archive, as you can imagine there is a very large quantity of manuals to obtain. You refer to the fact that you have "jam keys " from this I would assume the keys are not returning back to their normal position when pressed. This can often be caused by debris that falls between the keys, what I have attached to this reply is a copy of the SX-U50 service manual This will show you the basics to allow you to open the instrument and see how to remove the offending Keys and hopefully solve your problem
Best regards John (aka. jd5live )

Thanks for feedback. However its not that keys are stuck but the problem is they are not giving out tones when pressed or played. Some keys are silent when played or pressed.

Re: Fixing Technic U60 organ

I am off to see a U60 on Friday morning with the same fault. It will allow me to have a look over one of these organs and give some idea of what might correct the fault. I will report back then!

Re: Fixing Technic U60 organ

The U60 organ has simple metal strip and wire key contacts.
I use servisol switch cleaner, just a little squirt, on each contact which seems to make things better. If you lift the keyboards you will see that the copper coated steel strips act on a plastic strip that has a wire wound around it. This is the only contact. Should you still find the contact is intermittent I use a toothbrush very gently on the plastic and wire part of the contact. You only need to use a few bristles of the brush to very gently wipe the wire off and then apply another squirt of servisol. Make sure you don't bend the copper strips!

To dismantle the organ first remove the top which has two screws in the top the 4 screws that hold the top edge of the rear panel and then two hidden screws in the recess holes. Then remove the roll top. Then beneath the keyboards are 6 screws with square washers. Remove all of these. There are 2 long ones and 4 short ones. Inside the top of the organ are a pair of hinges that allow the tabs and control panel to lift up. The hinges are held down with two more screws in the top edge to stop it lifting!

Let me know how you get on!

The internals of the U60 are much the same as the E50 range. If you ave never tried it try using several switches in the central push button to engage both the orchestral and the tab voices or for that matter the synth and the percussive voices together. Must be one of the first multi timberal instruments ever made!

Re: Fixing Technic U60 organ

These were made over 25 years ago they are only available as scrap or at least EBay items and are likely all to be past their best. You will not find a good one easily.I have an E60 which is similar but to an extent better in that it has better multi timberal functions for both manuals. Shipping from here in the UK would be very expensive, probably far too much to be worthwhile, I would expect that shipping a big lump like an organ is likely to be over £200 (UK pound) and would involve expensive packaging.
