GN3

I was wondering, if the SX GN3, had the theatre organ sounds in it? I've looked over both manuals but, the info in somewhat vague. I'm hoping someone could shed some light on this. Thank you :-)

Re: GN3

Hi CelticKnight,

Technics GA3 has theatre organ sounds. I haven't played this model myself so I'm not sure how they are accessed. Take a look on Youtube with a search for Technics GA3 Theatre Organ to find some examples. Try the same search with GA1 also because there's a nice recording on there of a GA1 and GA3 will have all of those sounds.

Best wishes,
Mike

Re: GN3

Ahhh ok. Well I know the GNs fairly well. I would say you can get theatrish sounds out of them but they aren't really geared for that. Yes, to playing in the style of a theatre organ, sounds reasonable. No, to having plenty of specific theatre organ sounds.

Re: GN3

Alright. Thanks Mike! That's what I needed to know or rather, confirmed. I was looking at one today but A) realized there were only 39 keys and B) there are specific sounds I'm looking for. I rescinded a bit a Ebay this morning for a FA1!. I HATED doing that but, the drive was too long 3.5hrs plus the cost of a rental truck. I don't do well on long drives.
Right now, looking at a refurbished Conn Theatre 650 and a Gulbransen President model.

Again, thank you for your help.

Re: GN3

No problem. I misread GN3 as GA3.

It might also be worth you looking at a virtual instrument such as Miditzer and hooking that up to an existing organ.

I can't help you much with other brands... I try not to look at them! I can't afford to start liking a different brand for my own sanity because I have too many keyboards as it is!

Re: GN3

Haha..no problem. the person I got the info from initially told me SX-DN3. I looked on the site here and said to myself, there is no DN3 or DN anything. Hahaha. I figured the guy meant GN3.

Yah, I have a Thomas Californian spinet that was my Grandmothers. Only problem, the rhythm section went out a few years back. Still trying to track down a chip for it. Thomas parts are scarce unless you find a cheap Thomas and scrap it out. I hate seeing that done.

Funny...you bring up this...miditzer. WHAT..is that? I saw a YouTube, that a guy had some midi machine, somehow, connect to his Conn Theatre organ. Now, we all know midi was not invented when these organs were built. I've seen organs being dismantled and a whole midi system and Hauptwerk with Wurlitzer sounds programmed in. This guys Conn, was NOT revamped. In so saying that, wouldn't it of had to have been?

I don't understand a lot of that.

Re: GN3

Well, in brief, MidiTzer is the sound of a Wurlitzer in a computer program. You'll appreciate that you can hook up any MIDI organ to a computer and that it can then control 'virtual instruments'. Some of these instruments are quite astonishing in quality. You then route the computer's output into your organ's input, so that it plays through your usual organ sound system. This sort of system takes a bit of setting up but it is affordable and super-realistic.

If you search MidiTzer on youtube you can hear the results. You'll see that people have built entire instruments around their computer but it's obviously easier to just hook it up to your existing organ!

I'm working on an article to explain how to use an old, cheap Technics organ as a fantastic Hammond-with-drawbars but unfortunately that's going to take me quite a while to publish. The principles are the same though.

You can also google Miditzer and you'll find that you can download it for free and try it out on your computer.
