Connecting KN5000 to Computer (midi)

Ok. Bob tried to help get my flash updated. Bob, I DID it! Took me a month or two. YAY! THANKS! What I need to know is, I've read all this: Driver: First download the Host Port Driver for WinXP, all available drivers will work because the Host Port…

I am on step: Read the top of Page 123 and go to that Save screen (2 of 3). Notice that it isn't going to save your User MIDI Settings. Set all the files to NO and set the User MIDI Settings to YES. Now you can Save.

Re: Connecting KN5000 to Computer (midi)

Whilst a midi file is playing, try changing the Sounds on the Right 1 Part of KN5000 and see whether that is reflected in the Program, Bank MSB and Bank LSB numbers changing in Midiplayer. The names don't matter, do the numbers change? Let me know.

Well...yes..and no. Say..i press FLUTE on 5000..the only instrument that will change is piccolo. Always, just the top left instrument. None of the other buttons will change.

These numbers on Midiplayer. When you change your instrument on the KN5000, the numbers in Midiplayer should change.

Re: Connecting KN5000 to Computer (midi)

Ah good. Ok, then midi is working in both directions.

I can't help you much more tonight, it is almost 11pm and I have work to do.

The next things you will want to do are:

Connect your computer speaker or headphones socket to your KN5000 input. So that the miditzer sounds come through your KN5000 speakers.

Then adjust the midi settings so that your KN5000 sounds don't play at the same time as the Miditzer sounds. There are quite a few steps to that and we'll then need to save a User MIDI Preset for it, so that you can swap between the midi presets whenever you have need.

Anyway, sort out some cables so that you get Miditzer playing through your KN5000, speakers, that will sound great.

Then you can download KONTAKT 5 to start to try other virtual instruments.

And then, if you're experiencing latency (delay) we have a few more steps to go through.

Also, don't have more than one midi program running on your computer at the same time. They will block each otehr. So don't run Miditzer and Midiplayer at the same time.

Bye for now,
Mike

Re: Connecting KN5000 to Computer (midi)

Ok! So I switched the MIDI USB cable to a different port on the computer and I have sounds coming the MIDI player through the KN5000 speakers and headphones. Also, settings back to normal as you guided me through.
HOWEVER, sound for the Miditzer, will ONLY work through computer speakers, NOT the KN5000.

Re: Connecting KN5000 to Computer (midi)

Good morning, I just have time to send you a reply.

1 - Do not run Miditzer and Midiplayer at the same time. if you do, they will conflict as I said earlier. This would make (for example) Midiplayer's settings revert as you showed in your screen grab. You must run them (and any midi program) separately, one at a time.

For very technical users - that is not an absolute truth but it applies in most cases and definitely applies in this case.

2 - Midi interfaces only send 'computer information'. They do not send Audio. To get the Miditzer audio (or any virtual instrument audio) from your PC to your KN5000 you need to use the audio jacks on your computer and keyboard. For example, go from your headphones jack on your computer to your line in jack on your KN5000. They are different sizes, you will need adapters.

So, you play the keyboard, the midi interface sends computer signals to the PC. The (midi) computer signals play the Miditzer. The Miditzer sends audio to the headphones port on the PC. The headphones port jack sends the audio signal through an audio cable to the KN5000 line in and the sound comes out of the KN5000's speakers.

Best wishes,
Mike

Good Morning Mike...well..morning here....haha
OK. So when the Miditzer is used, it should be coming out of the computer speakers then. Wanted to make sure.

Re: Connecting KN5000 to Computer (midi)

Certainly intrigued about this Kontakt 5 program.
The midi program is playing through the 5000. I can play the Miditzer through, the 5000. It is odd though that the midi cable was partial to one port and not both.

Speaking of other programs with voices and such, the one option I'm looking for is the male choral voices. Seems to be enough female voices but, very few male choral/vocal options. Amy idea where to find those?

Re: Connecting KN5000 to Computer (midi)

Moving the midi cable from one port to another will have caused the midi interface driver to be reinstalled. Maybe there was some small issue with it.

The audio for Miditzer or Kontakt 5 Player will come through your computer until you route it through your KN5000 with an audio cable from PC to Keyboard.

Kontakt 5 Player (free) comes with many free instruments, I think it has vocals. The sounds are superb.

Re: Connecting KN5000 to Computer (midi)

What is or which is an audio cable?

Question on the STYLES_SERIES_Y2_GA. I only have three folders which download. Odd part is, when I float the cursor over the zip file, it says NOT SHOWN: 28 files/folders. I'm looking at the list of styles and what gets downloaded is not all that is listed. Just was curious if I missed something.
Thanks again Mike
Dennis

Re: Connecting KN5000 to Computer (midi)

HI Dennis,

An audio cable is the one you'll need to get to connect the headphones socket on your computer to the line in on your KN5000. I described it earlier in point 2 above. This will let the miditzer sound come out of your KN5000 speakers.

I've only converted three folders of Styles Series Y2. The others will come later. I don't understand the not found message you're seeing. Have a look at the Y2 page it is explained on there.

Best wishes,
Mike
