Connecting KN5000 to Computer (midi)

Ok. Bob tried to help get my flash updated. Bob, I DID it! Took me a month or two. YAY! THANKS! What I need to know is, I've read all this: Driver: First download the Host Port Driver for WinXP, all available drivers will work because the Host Port…

I have no idea what the lights mean on that interface. The lights on mine are all off when it is playing. There is also a very smnall switch on my interface that has to be in the correct position.

Have you tried swapping the ports at every step and the things I mention above from your user manual? Can you please confirm each step it will be easier to troubleshoot. Cheers.

You will not be able to get one of those cords anywhere and it is not as reliable as a midi interface. Work through the steps smiling

Re: Connecting KN5000 to Computer (midi)

Can you confirm whether you followed the steps in the manual that I described earlier?

You refer to an article that Bob wrote. I'm not relying on that article because it is about sending MIDI from the keyboard to the PC. You need to send the MIDI from the PC to the keyboard (opposite direction) so it's important that you follow each of my steps and let me know. There could be quite a number of other things we need to check before we would assume that there's anything wrong.

OK..let's back up a sec. On the back of 5000..the COMPUTER switch....reading the manual...it didn't say what to have it switched to. Should it be on MIDI or PC1 or PC2?

It should be set to MIDI (I said that earlier) smiling

Otherwise the MIDI ports won't be operational.

You're certainly not an idiot. This is challenging and it took me absolutely ages to find everything out the first time... plus I have to re-think it all through every time I want to change anything.

Don't misunderstand my brevity, I'm just trying to get it working with you as quickly as we can smiling

I have to pop out for half an hour shortly. Back soon if you don't get a response.

Re: Connecting KN5000 to Computer (midi)

Every time you move the computer switch or initialise you must turn off and on.

Ok. Now don't go away, we haven't finished yet!

But I have to go out and will be back soon.

Next step is to save your current settings in a User MIDI Presets slot, so that you can get back to here if something else messes up.

Page 171 of your manual to save the presets. make sure you are saving, not recalling.

Back soon.

Re: Connecting KN5000 to Computer (midi)

I'm back.

So, as per Page 171 of the User Manual you have saved the current MIDI settings into USER 1 SETTING.

Next, let's save them to floppy disk, so that you can definitely return here whatever happens.

Read Page 111
Read Page 120 and 121. Referring to Page 121, start a Save operation in Technics file format.
Read Page 122. Name the File MIDIU1 (meaning midi user 1 settings).
Read the top of Page 123 and go to that Save screen (2 of 3). Notice that it isn't going to save your User MIDI Settings. Set all the files to NO and set the User MIDI Settings to YES. Now you can Save.

You now have your User MIDI Settings on the disk, so you can reload them if anything goes wrong.

Next, we need to check whether MIDI is working in both directions.

In Falcosoft MIDI Payer, whilst playing a file and ensuring that all your Settings are as my example picture earlier...i.e. MIDI in must be active too.

Whilst a midi file is playing, try changing the Sounds on the Right 1 Part of KN5000 and see whether that is reflected in the Program, Bank MSB and Bank LSB numbers changing in Midiplayer. The names don't matter, do the numbers change? Let me know.
